The project involves the technical upgrading of the existing building in compliance with the regulations established by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and the Italian Ice Sports Federation (FISG), including all the required facilities such as activity areas, ice rinks, changing rooms for athletes, judges, coaches and recreational skaters, equipment rental facilities, storage rooms, first-aid and medical rooms, and a dedicated room for the ice resurfacing machine.

The design focused on a complete reorganisation of both the internal and external layouts, ensuring compliance with current regulations across all areas. The project introduced separate internal circulation routes with dedicated changing rooms for the various teams, reorganised spectator seating to optimise capacity and sightlines, created new internal staircases and emergency escape routes, constructed a second ice rink dedicated to curling, and expanded the basement level to accommodate gyms, meeting rooms, award ceremony spaces, a press room, physiotherapy facilities, as well as technical rooms and ancillary services.

The project completely reorganised the building’s internal functions, making the entire facility fully accessible through the elimination of architectural barriers.

For the redevelopment of the exterior areas, environmentally sustainable and recyclable materials were selected to help reduce atmospheric pollution.

The building services engineering was designed by Eng. Michele Puggioni, incorporating a geothermal system and rooftop photovoltaic panels, while the structural engineering design was entrusted to Eng. Bruno Finzi.
